Best Laid Plans of…

Sector 5 understands that any creative campaign requires a sound doctrine of strategy in order to achieve success. The term strategy can mean many things to many people. To a marketing strategist it may mean one thing, to an architect another and to a financial planner it may mean yet another. As for Creative Strategy, we at Sector 5 tend to agree with in the following definition in that a strategy is “A method or plan chosen to bring about a desired future, such as achievement of a goal or solution to a problem”. We interpret that definition into two components; our Creative Philosophy (Method) and our Creative Process (Plan and Action).

Traditionally, discovery is a meeting with our client where we will ask all of the initial questions required to proceed in the design process. We do not take this meeting lightly and if we have had time and information to prepare, be prepared to answer many questions. If we have not the time or information, be prepared to start from the beginning and walk us all the way through. We understand in many situations this meeting is our sole opportunity to get the information we need to provide a quality proposal. However, discovery is not only about this meeting. During this time we will also do our homework. We will research everything that we have access to about our client and their products or services. The information we collect will serve as the foundation for moving forward in the process.

Creative Process

Process Driven Results

Kevin passionately believes that a creative process is essential to achieving value. In today’s demanding world of condensed timelines and consuming schedules, a logical creative process provides the ability to devise creative solutions that are on target, on budget, and on time. Kevin offers the following explanation of this principle.

“Creative professionals ultimately develop a unique creative process and the reason for this is simple; consistent results. All individuals who have faced the arduous task of creating something new from an ill-defined collection of information and a blank piece of paper, understand how challenging it is to generate direction and momentum. Then, repeat this task on demand, everyday. This is why all designers create a process to serve as a guide, a road map if you will, to ensure that ideas coalesce into a single point; a solution.”

A creative process also implements a series of intermediate points during the development of a concept that allows both the designer and the client to benchmark the concept and ensure that it remains on target. These steps allow Kevin’s clients to be both integral and interactive elements in the development of the solution, ensuring a tailored fit for his clients.

Although the steps below are the basis for his thought process, Kevin will scale and customize the procedures to meet the needs of his client’s timetable, budgetary constraints, and desired level of involvement in the creative process.
